What I Want From Nao
(Ft Myers fl USA)
Can Nao replace your cell phone?
Why not give nao a phone app as well as 3 or 4g cability. And you could also develop basic games like checkers.
This is not going to be me developing the app as I get paid to work, not the other way around.
Obviously you can have pandora radio. Than you can have game apps such as checkers, chess, scrabble, or monopoly to name a few. You could even sell special game boards for him to play on.
The app idea might be smart especially if you make Nao himself fairly inexpensive with basic personality one or two free apps like email. Maybe have one game like checkers. Sell the robot for $500 and then charge in addition one to two hundred for 3G capabilities. You can even have video and Skype. Have a camera in his eyes and a projector in his...
But it might be better for him to have "eyes in the back of his head" for the projector. I would not mind if my phone simply followed me all day. Sell a phone app for another 100.
The other big thing is if you can get voice re creation. It could emulate the voice of a deceased loved one if there is a recording to use. Could even feed it emails and such so it even processes information or thinks like that person.
Thank you very much for your ideas. I answer here because there is a lot to say, but you and others
can leave comments at the end too.
Giving Nao 3G ability would indeed be a good idea. But much can already be done through wi-fi. It would be nice to be able to use Nao through Skype for example. 1 developer is creating an application to use Nao and see/hear through Nao remotely through the Internet.
About the radio: I found 3 applications in the Nao Developer Program that allow you to connect to web radios, one enabling 8 different radios. There is also 2 applications to make Nao dance over music that it hears (one of them won the first Nao Developer contest).
Yes the app idea is sweet. The problem is that the iPad without apps is already awesome, so Aldebaran needs to make the robot that attractive to sell it in the first place, so that we can then sell apps. It's a long debate. $500 is less than an iPad, I don't believe they can make under $2000 anytime soon.
Nao is learning to use board games already. Check out here Nao playing Connect 4.
Your last idea is a little... Technically, it's possible to recreate one's voice if you have about 1 hour recording of him saying very diverse words. So take videos with your grand-parents!
Thank you very much for your sharp, funny and interesting comments and suggestions. It's very interesting to have a customer's point of view
on what apps they like.
