Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2014, and yet their are still a popular toys for kids. Also, while the original toy fits on a table, crazy japanese engineers created Mech robots you can ride and control! |
The game is fun and exciting while staying very simple, no wonder it has passed from generation to generation. It is now even available on iPhone. It has also inspired many other games, like the boxing game in Wii Sports. For the board game, you can find it easily online, like this version my Mattel that has good reviews on Amazon:
I guess it can be a good present for anyone around Christmas or for birthdays!
As you may know, Japanese people love robots, mech suits and have a lot of crazy scientists who create their own robots in their garage. The engineers of Sakibara-Kikai didn't feel like real-life Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots would just be boxers, and instead created the "Mech Boxers"!
The robots arms are powered by a high pressure air-pump, and you can hit by pressing buttons on the frame in front of your head. The pedals allow to move the robot both forward and backward. The robot is actually very easy to control, so that you can focus on the fun from the first minute! The only scary part is when you go backward and stop, the mech suit is on the verge of falling...
Anyway, I had the chance to test it myself, so here is the video!
